March 20, 2024

Often, in these newsletters, we talk about how the North Island community and Mount Cain volunteers come together to support our community ski hill. Not often enough does this newsletter talk about how Mount Cain supports the North Island Community.

Today that is different.
MCAPS would like to invite all North Island community youth aged 6-19 to come and spring ski for free.

MCAPS will waive the cost of lift tickets for youth aged 6-19 from any North Island Community including Gold River and Sayward.

It is our mission to provide affordable, sustainable recreational opportunities for North Island residents. We hope this gesture will allow more youth to access the mountain, to participate in the health benefits of sliding on snow and to have fun.   We are open every day until Monday, March 25, then again Friday, March 28 – Monday, April 1st, the weekend April 6/7, and April 13 as the last day for the  public… assuming the snow sticks around.

Lift tickets are just one piece of the puzzle, we call on any North Island Cainstars to take this opportunity to reach out to local youth, lend them your extra gear, help out by giving them a ride, and share your love of the mountains with them too.   Unfortunately, the shuttle bus is not running at this time, there is a public Facebook Ride Share page.

As best possible, we are asking that youth please present a BCID, Care Card, Status Card, Driver’s License, or N.I. Student card at the Ticket booth to receive your free pass.  This offer is unlimited; Free Lift tickets are available for youth aged 6-19 for each day left this season.

We have reasonably priced rentals and lessons for those who may not have access to equipment. You can find info on both HERE.

There are some great events for youth and kids coming up at Cain too:

  • This Friday, March 22 at 4 pm there will be a North vs South Snowshoe Baseball game!  Bring your snowshoes (or share some of ours) and your ball gloves and if you can’t play, bring your cheers and heckles.   This kind of entertainment is one of a kind Cain.
  • Saturday, March 30 is our annual KidsFest.   Saturday morning starts with a pancake breakfast sponsored by Port Hardy IGA – thank you! – A colouring contest with custom drawing by Nicole Fields, snow sculpting, races, an obstacle course, fireworks, and FREE LIFT TICKETS FOR YOUTH 6-19yrs.

Please help us to spread the word about Free Lift Tickets for our North Island Youth.

Together we can help the Young, Run!
