The Canadiens may be the best Canadian NHL hockey team right now, but the best team in my books is the New Lodge Committee. Captain Dean Hunchuk coached the committee through high lumber prices, reams of input, and changing ideas with hard work, humour, and a positive attitude. Architects Scott and Scott scored a double hat trick with not three but six versions of the designs. They were assisted by the enforcers – Stuart, Lance, and Campbell – who kept the team focused on the details of each play while also keeping their eye on the puck. Covid held a one-man advantage, but that did not stop this team from finalizing the plans and sending them off to the engineers.

And this is just the warm-up. The New Lodge Committee will be getting ready for the 2022 playoffs for the rest of this season. This means preparing the site, pouring the foundation, expanding the septic system (yes, we are getting better bathrooms), ordering supplies, and lining up the contractors. By the time the snow flies, we will be primed and ready for the big game. As soon as the 2022 season ends, we will start building the New Lodge and expect it to be up and running for the 2022/23 season.

Check out the layout of the New Lodge – it is spectacular. Ski Patrol and Ski Shop downstairs, Cafe and seating upstairs, multiple decks, a great view of Abel, the Rugged Mountains, and L1. And lots and lots of bathrooms. She’s a beauty.

There will be a chance to go over the plans and ask questions on the weekend of September 18/19 when we gather for the Work Party and AGM (Covid permitting). In the meantime, Dean has committed to keeping his playoff beard until the New Lodge is completed. Anyone want to join him? Hope the fish are biting,

Jen
