We all know the feeling. - you are sitting at home, watching the rain continue to fall and you can't help but wonder: is it snowing at Cain? I know there is, on average, a 6-8 degree temperature difference between my home in Sointula and Cain. But sometimes there is an inversion, sometimes it is 5 degrees on the highway and 4 degrees at L1, sometimes it is cold and rainy here and dry and cold at Cain. Weather on the North Island is fickle at the best of times and this can wreak havoc when it comes to planning your ski trip.
But have no fear - Professor Bill at the Vancouver Island University's Coastal and Climate Research Lab has placed weather stations on the Ridge Run and in the West Bowl. Follow this link and you can find out the temperature, snow depth, and wind speed and direction. Thanks Professor Bill.
To see a 6 day snow forecast, the wind report, or the avalanche bulletin check out the weather page of our website
And if you are checking the weather now you will know that there has been a wee bit of rain as of late. We will decide on Wednesday if we are able to open this weekend so stay tuned.
Health Warning - continual checking of the weather can affect your health. Side effects include carpel tunnel syndrome from refreshing the website, a desire to abandon your job when you see the powder snow getting deeper, shouting to Ullr when the website shows rain.
