When you want to get away from it all and explore some of the most challenging and exciting terrain available at one of the best kept secrets on Vancouver Island, a visit to Mount Cain is in order. Enjoy a friendly atmosphere surrounded by rustic cabins and outstanding terrain. Check out the many activities Mount Cain has to offer:

Skiing & Snowboarding: Open on weekends only, the untouched snowfall accumulates all week long leaving the slopes steeped in Vancouver Island’s best powder. The downhill experience here includes two T-bar lifts, one beginner’s handle tow, 18 runs and 457 metres of vertical drop.

Cross Country Skiing:  There are 15 kms of marked trails and logging access roads. Light touring equipment is recommended for sub-alpine trails. For the mountaineer there are three peaks at 1,800m within a 5-km radius.

Snowshoeing: Snowshoe the backcountry and discover high winter adventure. Trek through Mount Cain or explore the beauty of the forests below.  If you can walk, you can snowshoe!

Backcountry Skiing: The backcountry outside the Mount Cain ski area offers a multitude of bowls, and gladed areas to choose from. Snow and avalanche conditions may vary, avi gear and a knowledge of how to use this equipment is a must so all can enjoy the powder and great turns. Please note that anyone skiing outside the ski area boundries does so at their own risk and self rescue may be necessary. The backcountry areas surrounding Mt Cain are NOT patroled.

Summer Hiking: Once the winter snow recedes and the spring opens the alpine meadows, Mount Cain’s high alpine meadows and forests are excellent for hiking and wildlife viewing.

Fishing: The inland lakes around Mount Cain are great places to relax in the shade of a broad-brimmed hat and wait for the trout to bite.

Summer Camping: Schoen Lake Provincial Park has lakeside hiking trails and a rough alpine route that leads to Mount Schoen’s wildflower meadows. Woss Lake, Lake Klaklakama and Anutz Lake all offer great campgrounds and ample wildlife.
